Educational technologies, media and their uses in learning process


Educational technologies (Edu Tec) refers to an area of technology devoted to the development and application of tools (including software, hardware, and processes) intended to promote education.

There are some educational technologies, media and their uses in the learning process which are as follows:
1.      Multimedia: Multimedia devices provide students with opportunities to represent and express their prior knowledge. Multimedia applications engage students and provide valuable learning opportunities. It encourages deep reflective thinking of students. Multimedia is used to produce computer based training courses (CBTs).
2.      Reprography: “The process of copying data is known as reprography.” It is a branch of technology dealing with methods of duplication. Reprography has added to our ability to share information. Teachers find easy uses for class room to fill in the work book assignments, directions sheets, study guides, list of points in connection with showing of films.
3.      Board work: In board work following two kinds of boards are included “Bulletin Board and Flannel board”. Bulletin board is kind of pin board, notice board and it is made up of wood. Students and teachers can announce events and provide information to pin the notice on it. And Flannel board is very useful in class rooms for different activities of students as a strong writing device.
4.      Models and modeling: It is natural way of teaching and learning and so helpful in developing the power of imagination of the students. Models helps in the development of reasoning power, analyze thing systematically of the student. It keep students actively engaged in class room activity and helps the students to acquire more clarity and skills.
5.      Print media: print media has very important role in field of education. Print media like newspapers, books, magazines and other printed material are the basic oldest channels of communication between one sources to another. Through newspaper, we can get news, information and we can learn our national language, and English newspaper is very helpful to learn the English language. Through magazines we can learn by articles, features, interviews, and we can get very nice literature by magazines.
6.      Electronic media: Electronic media like radio, television, internet playing an important role in education. In radio many talk shows about different topics is a source of informal education. Internet is a medium by which we can collect information, read news, play games etc.
7.      Low cost materials: In use of low cost, simple materials which include hand-made educational material for easy way teaching. For skilled teachers it is easy task that they can arrange low cost material for teaching learning process. Charts, maps, models, science apparatus, kites and educational toys are examples of low cost materials.
8.      Language laboratories: A language laboratory is a teaching tool requiring the implementation of well-constructed tasks based on the students’ needs. Language instructors may use the language laboratory in order to improve those areas in which the students are facing problems such as structure or pronunciation. The effectiveness of the language laboratory directly depends on the teacher’s creativity. Language labs require better-prepared teachers who can put the new equipment and techniques to good use as well as conduct the class.
